This is the same time that Walter Gropius was making his journey through the United States. What a quite amazing experience that must have been. I believe Eric Mendelsohn was in the United States at about the same time and was deeply impressed by the back alley architecture that he saw, truly honest, unpretentious, functional, fire escapes and only the essential elements of structure and function.
